We need more trees all over Madison, especially with the advent of the emerald ash borer and the disappearance of many trees. The city should be taking the lead in planting by bike paths, along streets, and in parks. A variety of species need to be used. Our monocultures of the past have now been shown to be a disastrous idea. Little imagination is still being shown here, with still too many Norway maples, etc. being planted.
Response: The CIty of Madison has a history of funding and continues to fund the planting of thousand of trees in parks, terraces and along bike paths. The City has in recent years adopted a policy of species diversification.
