There is no homeless shelter for youth under age 18. In my work in the Madison Schools I hear stories about students who are homeless and alone without parents or guardians. They are riding the buses all night, stay in all night restaurants, they find "parties" to go to and then just stay after everyone else has gone, they might be in a car, a tent or couch surfing in and out or various homes. Often we simply don't know where they are staying. There is literally no safe place for them to go. This is unacceptable in a city like Madison.
Response: No specific response, however, the City recently entered into a contract with Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin to develop and operate a coordinated intake and assessment system to improve the ability to connect homeless persons with available services.
