I grew up in Madison but have also lived in NYC. Madison is so fortunate to have the lakes which bring people together (Union/James Madison/Picnic Point), it would also be great to have a park connecting the lakes. I don't know if the city is still talking about turning parts of the Near East into a Madison Central Park but I feel like infusing more trees/nature into our city environment, including outdoor eating, performance stages, fountains and a place to walk/ride bike would be amazing. This vision would be based on the Central Park plan. No cars and lots of paths, meeting areas for musicians, cart vendors, etc. This is what makes a city great, especially one that celebrates good weather like us. Thanks for asking.
Response: We agree! Madison's new Central Park has broken ground and is anticipated to be open for use in the summer / fall 2014.
