Madison boasts a great network of community centers that serve as a focal point for Madison's most vulnerable residents by providing a hub of services, programs and opportunities that strengthen families and children; mobilize people to help each other and build stronger neighborhoods. Through partnering community centers leverage additional financial and human resources beyond the city's financial contribution. Investing in community centers should be a city budget priority.
Response: Capital budget seeks $1 million per year to support investments in new or expanded neighborhood centers. Operating budget supplemental requests incldue proposals to support facility costs at the expanded Meadowood Center, operational needs of a new center at Theresa Terrace, and insulate centers from the impact of anticipated cuts in federal funding. Other supplemental requests address specific programming requests made by neighborhood centers.
