Extend the bike path that runs in-front of Memorial Union ( past the dorms to Picnic Point) to James Madison Park near the shore line.
Riding on Gorham, Johnson and Langdon can be quite hectic on a bike, why not extend the bike path that runs past the UW Campus on the shore of Lake Mendota to James Madison Park.
This would allow students, visitors and residents to ride more safely between the park and campus. It would also be adventitious as many of the B-cycle stations are along or near that corridor.
Response: The idea of extending a bike path between the Memorial Union and James Madison Park is great idea that should be further studied. The study should include route alternatives analysis, right of way and property impacts, and construction cost estimates. This is an ambitous project that Traffic Engineering can support if environmental impacts and potential right of way acquisition can be carefully addressed. Madison Parks is also supoortive of the concept.
